Merry Christmas
Gamecatcher wishes you all a Merry Christmas and may your wishes become reality, and we hope you also have a happy New Year.

In an unexpected move, Firaxis released a second patch for Civiliziation 4 right before Christmas, which is available via the auto-update function within the game. It fixes many things and most important are the stability and performance improvements that should make this great game playable and enjoyable for an even wider audience.

C&C Celebrates 10 Years!
Earlier this year, the Command & Conquer series celebrated its 10th birthday. With 12 titles being released over the 10 years, electronic arts felt they should honor the game with a special collectors edition which is currently being developed EA Los Angeles.
With over 23 million units sold worldwide to date, the C&C franchise has defined the Real-time strategy (RTS) genre with cutting-edge visuals, epic storylines, and rich mission complexities. The series has evolved over a decade, spawned over a dozen titles, and continues to be the genre benchmark by which all RTS games are measured. With its explosive style of warfare, the C&C franchise has grown over the years to span multiple fictional genres, including the science fiction Tiberium universe, the revisionist history of the Red AlertÔ universe, and a twist on modern warfare with Command & ConquerÔ Generals. ~EA Press Release (11/4)

Civilization IV - Previews
Gamespot has recently released the first preview to cover the Middle and Late Eras of the newest Civ incarnation, thus having the most complete coverage of Sid Meier´s Civilization IV!
Check out their gamepage for CivIV, read the many previous previous and developer interviews and take a look at the tons of screenshots, videos and gameplay trailers!
The release date of CivIV is now just 1 month away (10/24/2005) and it sure looks interesting to say the least. The differences will not only be graphical with the transition to 3D, but some core parts will make CivIV feel quite unique.
I guess we are all eagerly awaiting whether those changes will result in even better gameplay and more of the addicting "one more turn" feeling!

New IRC service - CivIRC
Gamecatcher has joined the new IRC community for Civ enthusiasts, created by members from our affiliates CivGaming Network.
A new IRC channel #Gamecatcher has been created on these servers where Civ players from many different communities and from all over the world come together to chat, discuss and have fun.
As usual you can use any IRC client of your choice to connect to our channel with the following details:
Server : irc.civirc.com
Channel: #Gamecatcher
Port # : 6668
Of interest may also be the main CivIRC room (#CivIRC) where most of the community gathers and where server operators can help with any problems encountered.
Of course you can also use our Java chat client to access this new channel.
Enjoy.

A new IRC channel #Gamecatcher has been created on these servers where Civ players from many different communities and from all over the world come together to chat, discuss and have fun.
- New Service for Civ Chatters
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an Internet system for real-time chat, which has proven its usefulness in several venues, including gaming communities. Civilization players could have several uses for a dedicated IRC service, especially with the Democracy gaming or various Civ development projects, where large teams of players need to discuss matters quickly and efficiently. Another example would be multiplaying: real-time discussion allows for a quick exchange of information on rules, dates and lets players arrange their games with as little hassle as possible. Then there are special occasions where an audience can ask questions from and talk with an honoured guest.
What makes IRC superior to email or forums is its speed, and it is based on channels, "rooms", where several people can discuss with each other simultaniously. This makes IRC particularly useful for groups of people.
However, so far the IRC solutions available to Civ players have been limited. There have been services which have provided some chat opportunities, but they have not been maintained with the devotion the wide Civilization community requires, or they have been too small in scope.
CivIRC will be the first IRC network ever to focus on Civilization gaming, is going to rectify this, by helping Civ players to get the most out of IRC. It is a new, independent network available to all - not just Civilization enthusiasts, but also other similar usergroups.
Our team has nearly two years of experience from running an IRC service, and we have been members of various Civ communities for up to six years. This has given us an understanding of the needs of Civilization players. Therefore, by concentrating primarily on Civilization, we will be able to help out our users directly: this has proven useful especially in arranging tailored services, e.g. for the Intersite Democracy Game.
As usual you can use any IRC client of your choice to connect to our channel with the following details:
Server : irc.civirc.com
Channel: #Gamecatcher
Port # : 6668

New Game: AAT started
As promised, a new game of the BNT/NGS/TKI/AAT genre has been installed on our server and is available for all to play in!
Alien Assault Traders (AAT) is forked off the TKI source code and therefore many things you leaned in TKI are applicable to AAT as well. There are however many new things integrated into this version and overall it makes a more polished impression. But judge for yourself and register your account NOW!
Enjoy this game, set up with the standard, recommended settings, and invite your friends to play, too. And as always, start the discussions about your empire here in the forum to tell us your stories and experiences.
Just click the link from our Play server or follow this link to sign up and log in. A new adventure awaits you.

ISDG1: GWT declared Winner
The first Intersite Democracy Game (ISDG), played with Civ3 PtW, has officially ended. Due to the resignation of three teams, Apolyton, CFC and CGN, the only remaining superpower GWT has been declared winner based on acquired points.
The ISDG initially started with 8 teams, only 5 were left at the end with one only have a single last city.
Congratulations to our ally GWT!
Our team, the Gamecatcher Alliance (GCA), finished the game during the process of rebuilding our empire in the acquired former territory of CGN as the closest ally to the winner GWT.
You can look at after game discussion held at the ISDG UN at CDG. And everyone can look at the saves using the admin password. More info found at the UN or inside our team forum.
